Battle Barn Gamers gathered to play Canvas Eagles using Dan’s newly constructed airplanes on June 27, 2009. On the first of two missions the Allies had to send an observation plane to observe enemy troop concentrations. The Central Powers had the balloon busting mission. Although both sides accomplished their mission, it was clear that the Central Powers out flew the Allies. The Allies were played by Ron, Rich, and Dan. The Central Powers players were RJ and Garrett who was new to the game.

The first shot of the game; RJ’s Pfalz D.III fires on Ron’s Ni-24.

Dan’s Bristol F2B Fighter passes below Garrett’s Albatros D.Va on the way to observe enemy troops.

Ron’s Ni-24 turns to attack RJ’s Pfalz and sweeps past.

RJ’s Albatros D.Va takes sets the first Allied Observation Balloon on fire. Central Powers scores first!

Garrett’s Albatros and Rich’s SPAD make a head-on pass.

Sweeping past the burning remains of the first balloon RJ begins his run on balloon number two.

RJ lines up on balloon number two.

RJ’s yellow Albatros pops balloon number two.

Rich’s SPAD XIII, in Italian markings of course, takes out a German balloon. Above Rich is Dan’s Brisfit about to get riddled with bullets from Garrett’s green Albatros D.Va.

Garrett’s Albatros sets Dan’s Brisfit on fire with one shot!

RJ goes after balloon number three while Rich’s SPAD tries to catch him and stop the madness.

RJ destroys the third Allied balloon!

Dan’s Brisfit is going down on fire and with a seized engine. RJ’s Pfalz makes sure the Brisfit doesn’t return to the fight.

Dan’s fiery Brisfit lands safely. The pilot and observer were picked up by British troops.
RJ’s Pfalz zooms away looking for other victims while the spectre of the Red Baron looks on.

Having accomplished their mission and humiliated the Allies, German planes try to leave the battle area.

Garrett’s Albatros is out of fuel, weapons jammed, and swarmed by Allied scouts.
On the following turn Garrett Albatros went down. The rookie player got a kill on his very first mission, but never made it back to base to celebrate. Garrett made great showing for a first time in CE!

Mission 2: Garrett’s Fokker D.VII shoots down Dan’s SPAD, laying upside down on the ground.
RJ watches from his Fokker D.VIII.

Dan roars back into the air in a Sopwith Camel only to fly head on into RJ’s D.VIII. Joe’s SE-5a plays chicken with Garrett’s D.VII in the background.

Joe’s SE-5a fires a fatal shot into RJ’s Fokker D.VIII; a decisive moment in the second mission.
The night’s final tally:
RJ – 3 Kills (balloons), survived mission 1, KIA mission 2
